Description
Offered is a dated 1905, 8 panel accordion fold catalog and price list of grape vines and other small fruit plants sold by George S. Josselyn of Fredonia, New York. The cover features an elaborate Victorian design of grapes and berries on buff paper. The company had been in business for 25 years before this circular was issued and states: “We grow the largest stock of grape vines in America…”. The Campbell’s Early grape vine, sold by the company and extensively described, was awarded the gold medal at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis. Detailed information about this grape vine stock is given including recommended pruning practices —“on old vines we leave only 3 or 4 canes…”. The cost was per 1,000 one year no. 1. There is also a price list for raspberries, gooseberries, currant cuttings, and blackberries. The Josselyn Gooseberry is especially promoted( free from mildew) and the attention of nurserymen is drawn to plates of this berry variety printed by the lithographer famous for this kind of work: The Rochester Lithographing Company.Size: 7.25" X 5.25"
Condition: The front panel is missing a piece at the right lower corner and has a small tear on the right edge. There are old rubber stamp marks on the right edge of the front panel ( not library marks). There are some overall creases, some small tears to the upper right corners, a very small piece missing at the bottom at the fold of the third panel, and some slight bottom right corner tip paper loss.
