Offered is a c.1910, 40pp. heavy-stock paper wrapper booklet promoting travel to California on the Union Pacific System (railroad). The back and front covers feature idyllic color scenes of the California landscape and the lettering is done in embossed, gold ink. The title is:California

There are 39 photo-illustrations of California points of interest, including Yosemite Falls, Missions, the Arroyo Seco bridge in Pasadena, Bugalows in Los Angeles, Avalon,Catalina Island, Santa Cruz beach, Terrace Gardens in Hollywood, Tent City in Coronado Beach, 17 Mile Drive in Monterey, Lake Tahoe, Truckee River Canyon, Mt. Lowe Electric Railway and much more. There are maps showing railroad lines in the vicinity of San Francisco, greater California, and Los Angeles. The contents include a full page map of the western United States showing Union Pacific routes. There are sections with explanations of how to travel to California from specific places i.e. Ogden to San Francisco via connecting routes. California sports and recreations are described including polo, tennis, yachting and motoring. There are maps of Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park. Laid in is a one page flier for Chicago and North West Line RR. Side one has a map with a list of agents. Side two has a photo-illustration of the Madison Street Terminal in Chicago and a description of the railroad. The title of this booklet was used for a seminal book by Gary Kurutz on California promotional literature. A classic piece.
