The B & W, slightly sepia-toned photo of the WWII era Japanese imperial soldier in full uniform w/cap, is undamaged by any paper loss, stains or other cond issues. It's framed by a pressed tin, raised bas-relief, hinged frame, connected to the metal ladies' cigarette case at its bottom, w/a mirror on the other side that's as well, undamaged. The ext of the hand painted ladies' metal cigarette case features black lacquer w/red & gold enamel, gesturally painted floral decoration. The ext doesn't suffer any paint loss & is only slightly marred by a few superficial scuffs & minor abrasions. This was clearly a ladies' cigarette case & the photo of the Japanese soldier was likely the woman's husband, fiance or romantic suitor. Tucked away like a ship in a bottle or a time capsule.
