Attention collectors, show exhibitors!  This is a pre-owned barrel racing/gaming combination hackamore gag snaffle bit by Texas bit maker Jim Trammell for the finished gaming horse.  The bit is in clean lightly used preowned condition with some rusting on the twisted wire snaffle and curb chain.  These amazing bits are getting harder and harder to find, and horsemen don't like to let them go once they have ridden their horse in one.  This vintage bit is

and is stamped with the original makers mark "Trammell" on the inside left cheek:  The original hand stamped Joe Trammell bits  "TRAMMELL" maker's marks were never struck clean.  Newer production bits have deep machine made stamps.  Hand stamping typically left partial or uneven letter depths as shown in the close up photos of maker's mark in this bit

Utilizing various pressure points, Combination Bits offer simultaneous interaction of the twisted wire gag snaffle, curb chain, and noseband.  When rein pressure is applied or released, the bit automatically disperses or releases pressure to the horse's mouth, chin, nose and poll.  Because pressure is dispersed, the bits offer succint and effective, yet very humane communication, allowing the rider to use less pressure than needed with a traditional bit.  Rewarding the horse for staying light,  Combination Bit an excellent training tool.
The Trammell combination bit was
designed to create a light mouth, and enhance full control.  This bit is a great training tool for any program where control is essential, especially barrel racing and putting the "whoa" on gaming stock.  The gag shanks enhance the force of the shank in the direction of the pull.  Engaging the reins, pushes the nose piece forward so the horse feels the presence of the snaffle in his mouth first.  If there is no response, then then the leather wrapped stainless steel nose piece and chain engages for more effect.  Applying the pressure slowly will communicate to the horse that light pressure on the mouth will be followed by more intense pressure on the nose and chin.  This bit should enhance lightness in the mouth and increase responsiveness to the rider's cues.  The bit is also a very useful tool when training neck reining and enhances total control when needed.
The mouthpiece is a sweet iron twisted wire snaffle that measures 5-1/2 inches wide by 1/2 inch in diameter with 8-1/2 inch long shanks.  The combination bit weighs 1 pound 5 ounces.  As a result, this bit should only be used by a very experienced trainer/rider as the typical leverage ratio for most curb bits is within the range of 2 or 3 to 1.  This is a
